Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering or related field. One to three years of process engineering experience and a working knowledge of ISO-9001 procedures, Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing training and strong supervisory skills. Some hands on knowledge of batch reactors, pumps, heat exchangers, and industrial control systems preferred.
NOTE - This position requires that applicants successfully pass a pre-employment, as well as an annual pulmonary function test (PFT). The position may expose the employee to isocyanates, which are chemicals known to be respiratory irritants and sensitizers. While TSE does provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to its employees working around such chemicals, the most current and best available medical data indicates that individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions including but not limited to asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema and the like are at high risk for experiencing serious, and possibly fatal reactions to isocyanates, even at concentrations below the legally permissible exposure level (PEL). Therefore, due to this direct threat to their safety, TSE does not hire individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions to work in this position. Work with Technical Director and Research and Development team in developing new and improved chemical manufacturing processes. Responsible for R & D pilot plant scale-ups, production scale-ups in terms of cost, methods, quality and quantity of production, operations and personnel. Analyze operating procedures and equipment and machinery functions to reduce processing time and cost. Assist engineering team in process upgrades, capital equipment purchases, and new process upgrades. Determine most effective arrangement of unit operations exercising judgement to compromise between process requirements, economic evaluation, operator effectiveness, and physical and health hazards. Conduct rolling reviews and statistical analysis of process capabilities. Assist with formulations. Update, modify, adjust batch sheets. Perform tests and take measurements throughout stages of production to determine degree of control over variables such as temperature, density, specific gravity, and pressure. Maintain raw material inventory levels as outlined in minimum/maximum requirements. Assist engineering team with corrective actions and non-conforming material analysis. Assist engineering and maintenance with troubleshooting, repair, preventative maintenance of existing equipment requirements.
Assist Materials Management in record keeping on finished goods inventory. Plan and lay out work; assign, instruct, direct, train and assist Chemical Operators. Enforce safety policies within department. Co-responsible for all aspects of quality control and assurance along with Lab Manager. Apply principles of Chemical Engineering to solve environmental problems. Create, follow, and enforce Quality System Documentation. Participate in ISO 9001 corrective action reports. Responsible for writing non-conformance reports. Ability to work in all Chemical Engineering disciplines, in terms of process layout, unit operations, process control and cost elimination. May direct and manage production employees.
