Thanecure® T9
Thanecure T9 is a polyfunctional isocyanate which is used as a vulcanization
agent for polyurethane rubbers and as
an adhesion promoter for rubber to textile bonding.
MSDS documents are available on our
Download page.Product Description
Chemical Composition: Dimeric 2.4-toluene
diisocyanate
Molecular weight: 348
Specific gravity: Approximately 1.48 g/ccm
Appearance: Fine, white powder
Package: 50 lb per box
Storage Stability: 24 months under dry and cool
conditions
Functionality
Under mild reaction conditions, i.e. at up to ~ 130º C in the absence of
basic catalysts, it is primarily bifunctional and has a molecular weight of
348.
Under more severe conditions (either at temperatures above 140/150º C or
with the aid of highly basic catalysts at temperatures above 90º C) it still
reacts primarily bifunctional but with an molecular weight of 174;
accordingly the central uretdione group splits under the formation of
monomeric TDI.
Please refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet and to the available
literature regarding the handling of TDI.
Applications
Thanecure T9 is used as a vulcanization chemical for certain millable polyurethane rubbers, as an adhesion promoter in
vulcanizing rubber to textiles, particularly polyester fibers and as a crosslinker in heat activated adhesion, coating or elastomer systems.
Thanecure T9 improves the adhesion of rubber to polyester fibers by more
than 100% compared to plain RFL dips.
